NEW PROJECT WITH DIGITAL READING LISTS

How do students read, how do they feel about the technological advances when it comes to academic reading, how do they behave in relation to the digital resources, what is expected by them as to being competent in their academic search? Can Google Scholar save time and allow them to find what they need and how do they perceive digital literacy as a process?
These are some of the questions we will try to answer during this semester allowing 40 students to relate to their digital reading lists the way they wish. The students were asked whether they wanted to borrow e-readers or preferred to read in their pcs or in paper. The University Library of Trondheim delivered 5 i pads and 3 DX Kindles, to students participating at the master`s level of the Teachers Educational Program of the University of Trondheim (NTNU). The project is a pilot one trying to analyze and follow the way students handle technology and academic reading. No pressure should be exercised on whether one prefers e-readers or computers instead of paper prints and the opposite. The students should use free will to participate in the project and the facilitator team will follow and study their studying behaviour. The projects is a cooperation between the Educational program for teachers and the University library in an effort to promote the digital resources of the library and at the same time to receive feedback from the users in order to evaluate the services students wish from the library.
